Potential Data Breach
We have learned of a data security incident that occurred between September 12, 2018 and October 12, 2018 that potentially involved some of your personal information. The breach entailed an unauthorized third party assisting in technical help with our Sage accounting software. It is unlikely that any information was acquired; however, while repairing the system the third party had access to current and past employee information such as names, mailing addresses, birthdates and Social Security numbers.
We are notifying you in accordance with Louisiana law. Because this is a serious incident, you may wish to take preventive measures now to help prevent and detect any misuse of your information. We have advised the Federal Trade Commission and the three major U.S. credit reporting agencies about this incident and have given those agencies a general report, alerting them to the fact that the incident occurred; however, we have not notified them about the presence of your specific information in the data breach.
As a first preventive step, you may wish to monitor your financial accounts and, if you see any unauthorized activity, promptly contact your financial institution.
You may also submit a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by calling 1-877-ID-THEFT (1-877-438-4338) or online at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
You may want to contact the three U.S. credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) to obtain a free credit report from each by calling 1-877-322-8228 or by logging onto www.annualcreditreport.com. Even if you do not find any suspicious activity on your initial credit reports, the FTC recommends that you check your credit reports periodically. Information is sometimes held for use or shared at later times. Checking your credit reports periodically can help you spot problems and address them quickly.
You can also place a security freeze by contacting the three U.S. credit reporting agencies. Keep in mind that when you place the freeze, you will not be able to borrow money, obtain instant credit, or get a new credit card until you temporarily lift or permanently remove the freeze. To obtain a security freeze, contact the following agencies:
Equifax: 1-888-298-0045; web: www.freeze.equifax.com
TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289; web: www.transunion.com
Experian: 1-888-EXPERIAN; www.experian.com/freeze.com
You also may want to consider placing a security freeze on your credit files. A freeze prevents an authorized person from using your personal identifying information to open new accounts or borrow money in your name.
We apologize for any inconvenience. Please feel free to call Sara at the nursery office at 318.748.6803 with any questions regarding the potential breach.
